Danny Ormerod’s goal early in the second half proved to be all that separated the sides on a bitterly cold evening in the Derbyshire Peaks.
Pav Singh made three changes to his side that lost heavily at South Shields on Saturday, with Ryan Watson, Isaac Abankwah and recently recalled Joao Silva coming into the starting XI.
Chorley worked the first meaningful chance of the game on the 16 minute mark when Adam Henley squared the ball to Mike Calveley but the midfielder dragged his shot wide of the target.
Then just before the half-hour mark the Lancashire side worked a well-constructed move ended with Monodou Touray finding Henley but the former Wales international’s strike was deflected over the bar.
In-form Kieran Flavell made an excellent save on the 36 minute mark as the on-loan goalkeeper tipped Henley’s shot from the edge of the box over the bar.
Conor Branson had a speculative effort for the Celts just before the break but his attempt from 25 yards couldn’t trouble Matt Urwin in the opposition goal.
After creating more of the first half chances Chorley took a deserved lead on 51 minutes when Ormerod’s pin-point strike from the edge of the area found the bottom corner.
Flavell was at full stretch five minutes later as he pushed Debem Eze’s short from the edge of the area past the post before Ormerod came close to netting his second, with an ambitious free kick from 25 yards just wide of the upright.
Farsley’s best chance of the game came five minutes from the end as Ryan Watson’s free kick from 25 yards out brushed the side netting.
The midfielder’s evening wouldn’t last much longer though as he was sent off for violent conduct shortly after as he needlessly got involved in fracas after Farsley were awarded a free kick.
