Farsley Celtic earned a massive three points on the road at promotion chasing King’s Lynn Town thanks to first half goals from Darren Stephenson and Manny Mampala
Stephenson struck with ten minutes remaining in the first half with a low strike past Jones before Mampala doubled the lead on the stroke of half time from a rebound.
The Celts came into the game as big underdogs thanks to the form of both sides before the fixture, and it looked as though it could be a long evening for the Celts when King’s Lynn took hold early on and threatened Tom Wooster in goal but the goalkeeper was in inspired form this evening.
However the Celts stood strong and began to grow into the game as Danny Greenfield and Mampala went close to breaking the deadlock at The Walks.
Ten minutes before the break and the Celts were in front. After breaking through the midfield, the ball fell to Stephenson who left his defender for dead before firing the ball past Jones for his 7th goal of the season in all competitions.
Farsley stayed on the front foot and grabbed the second just moments into stoppage time at the end of the first half. Robbie Fox charged forward before drawing a diving save from Jones; the rebound falling to Mampala who lashed in the rebound to give Farsley a two goal cushion going into the break.
The Celts could have put the game out of sight within the opening five minutes of the second half when Lewis Turner got down the left before cutting the ball back for Cole Hyde whose volley sailed agonisingly over the bar.
Moments later and Mampala came close to bagging a brace when some trickery on the edge of the penalty area was followed by a left footed strike which forced Jones down to his left to prevent a third for Pav Singh’s side.
Farsley then had to dig in for the rest of the half as the Linnets began to launch an aerial assault on the Celts’ goal; the defence remaining resolute as well as Wooster in goal who produced save after save to preserve the clean sheet.
King’s Lynn’s biggest chance for a lifeline perhaps came five minutes before the end of normal time when a half volley on the edge of the six-yard box was sent just high and wide.
Farsley weathered the rest of the King’s Lynn storm to secure a massive three points and clean sheet on the road to go up to 15th in the table on 20 points ahead of Saturday’s trip to Kidderminster Harriers who returned to the National League North this season after being relegated.
