An early goal from Shirley Murphy, finding her goalscoring form from last season once again, set the Celts on their way against a committed and physical Morley Town side who league position perhaps doesn’t reflect the quality in their team.
It was a strong performance from the start against Morley, with a step up needed after a tough battle against Silsden last week, but Morley’s defence held strong in the first half to keep things tight at one nil.
Ultimately though, it was one of those famous ‘game of two halves’ as the second half saw Farsley Celtic find another gear and put in a highly composed performance that saw them put out a statement to the rest of the Premier Division.
Kaitlyn Walker doubled our lead before Shirley Murphy scored her second to put us 3-0 up and while Morley pulled one goal back, a first Farsley Celtic goal for Leah Cooper restored our 3 goal lead which was held until full time and secure the 3 points.
After the game, Izzy spoke to the club social media account and had the following to say: ‘It was a bit scrappy in the first half, and we were holding on to the ball a bit too much but we sorted it out in the second half and kept the ball going with pass and move and in the end it proved right because it was a heck of a lot better.’
Commenting on the step up after promotion: ‘It’s tough. It’s really tough you know but we’ve got a big squad for that reason. It is an odd league to be in, but we’ve risen to the challenge and we’re top of the league now and I want to stay there. Long may it continue!’
Next up for Farsley Celtic Women is a trip to Weetwood and the Unversity Sports Park to take on a Leeds Medics and Dentists side who are just one point behind us in this early season, top of the table clash. Kick off at Weetwood is at 2pm on Sunday 20th of October. We’d love to see as many Celts as possible to create an atmosphere and get behind the girls!
