Farsley Celtic were narrowly defeated by a goal to nil at the Impact Arena on Saturday as Anthony Lynn’s goal secured the points for Leamington

The substitute’s second half looping header was enough to secure a tight 1-0 victory for the Worcestershire side as Farsley struggled to find the net.

Playing their first ‘home’ game of the season, Farsley started off brightly and dominated the early stages, almost taking the lead on the ten-minute mark when Bailey Sloane’s first-time effort from the edge of the area was hit low and hard forcing a save from Hawkins in goal.

Farsley continued to push and ten minutes later came an opportunity for Darren Stephenson who through some tricky footwork left a Leamington defender on the floor before pulling the trigger with his left foot, Hawkins was equal to it once again however with a diving save to his left.

The chances continued to flow for Pav Singh’s side whose three-game unbeaten run came to an end today, with DJ Campton-Sturridge next to go close with a volley which just flashed over the crossbar.

The closest Farsley would come to taking the lead in the first half came through Danny Greenfield in stoppage time when his effort from a free-kick at a tight angle forced Hawkins to tip the ball over the bar to deny the midfielder.

Leamington came out better in the second half and began to stamp their mark on the game, testing the returning Tom Wooster who got down well to his left to deny the away side.

They continued to grow into the game and eventually got themselves in front with 20 minutes remaining when Lynn, who had only been on the pitch for a matter of moments, met a cross with a looping header which beat Wooster before nestling in the bottom left corner.

Farsley responded well and came close to equalising in spectacular fashion minutes later when Greenfield’s audacious volley from the edge of the penalty area drew yet another fine save from Hawkins to prevent the ball flying into the top right corner.

The Celts continued to bang on the door for a leveller and they didn’t come closer than when when Sam Fielding’s first time strike once called Hawkins into action to preserve Leamington’s clean sheet.

Paul Holleran’s side dug in during stoppage time and came out with all three points, extending their unbeaten run to five in all competitions, with Farsley dropping down to tenth position in the National League North.

The attention for Singh and his men now once again turns away from the National League North as they travel to Wythenshawe Town next Saturday in the FA Cup Fourth Qualifying Round which will be televised on BBC iPlayer and Red Button.
