Farsley Celtic will be looking to bounce back from their weekend defeat to Buxton when the Celts travel to Merseyside to face Marine.

In the first midweek fixture of the 2024/25 season, Clayton Donaldson and his side find themselves heading to newly promoted Marine FC with the Celts looking to bounce back from their unfortunate defeat to Buxton at the weekend where a strong second half performance went unrewarded as the home side snatched a late winner against the run of play.

It’s Farsley’s third straight away fixture with the Celts not due to play at The Citadel until Saturday 21 September, and they’ll be looking to put as many points on the board as possible before then.

Their opponents on Tuesday night are in the form of Marine, recently promoted from the Northern Premier League after gaining promotion through the play-offs. The Merseyside outfit have amassed a single point from their opening fixtures, drawing 1-1 with fellow newly-promoted side Oxford City at the Marine Travel Arena on the opening day, before succumbing to a 3-0 defeat at the hands of 2023/24 play-off finalists Scunthorpe United at Glanford Park.

TEAM NEWS

The Celts will still be without club captain Chris Atkinson who continues to recover from an injury picked up at the start of pre-season. It remains to be seen if Aiden Walker will be fit after being substituted early on against Buxton with a shoulder injury.

MARINE AFC

Marine are a familiar opponent for Farsley, after the two sides competed with each other in the Northern Premier League between 2017 and 2019 before Farsley’s promotion. Neil Young remains the manager tasked with keeping them in the National League North.

LAST TIME OUT

The two sides most recently faced off at The Citadel in April 2019 where a 2-0 win for the Celts sealed promotion to the NLN for the first time since the club’s reformation in 2010. Goals from Will Hayhurst and Jimmy Spencer on that day.
