An action-packed second half saw Farsley Celtic and Leamington share the points in a hard-fought 1-1 draw in the spring snow at the Citadel.

It was a feisty, even affair as Lewis Turner’s back post strike cancelled out a stunning effort from Dan Turner to ensure neither side lost ground in the battle to avoid relegation.

The first chance of the game fell to the Celts early on as Frank Mulhern dragged a shot wide of the keeper’s right-hand post after good work from Bobby Johnson.

Farsley had a scare minutes later as a long ball over the top proved a challenge for Max Dearnley to deal with in the tricky, snowy conditions, but although his header fell to Dan Turner he scuffed his effort to Ollie Hulbert who was offside.

Leamington would come close after a low ball in from Liam Cross found Hulbert 10 yards from goal, whose stretching effort was well held by Dearnley.

Farsley then had the best opportunity of the first half as a headed flick-on from Mulhern found Scales who beat his defender with ease, finding himself one on one with Ted Cann who ended up making a comfortable save after a tame effort.

Within five minutes of the restart, it was the visitors who found the breakthrough, Dan Turner cutting in from the left and striking an unstoppable effort into the top right corner.

The response from Farsley was excellent, and the Celts would draw level on the hour mark.

After a period of pressure, Lewis Butroid delivered a dangerous cross that flicked off Tom Allan’s head and dropped at the back post, where Lewis Turner was charging in and was able to prod home.

The goal handed all the momentum to Farsley, and it was Russ Wilcox’s side who looked to be pushing for the all-important next goal.

The hosts were left wondering how they hadn’t edged in front when Ted Cann made a fantastic double save, initially denying Tom Allan from point-blank range and then instantly getting back up and preventing the rebound from substitute Theo Williams.

At the other end, Jack Edwards had a header comfortably held by Dearnley, but it was Farsley piling on the pressure.

The Celts had three successive corners deep into added time, the third resulting in a desperate scramble in the Leamington box, but the visitors would ultimately stand strong.

Overall, it was a point that both sides could reflect on as a crucial one come the end of the season, or as a missed opportunity to snatch a vital three points against a relegation rival.
