Farsley Celtic host Ossett United Ladies this Sunday at the Citadel in the quarter-finals of the West Riding County Cup.

The big games keep on coming for Farsley Celtic as we approach the business end of the season, but the cup tie against Ossett United is arguably the biggest of the season so far.

The Celts are fresh off beating their title rivals last time out, Burley Trojans, in what proved to be one of the Celts’ toughest tests so far this season, but it was one they passed with flying colours.

Farsley Celtic captain Lauren Rigby says the game against Burley has set the team in good stead for the challenging cup tie against Ossett.

She said: “Burley are a decent team and so it has been useful to have them as the game before Ossett.

“We have learnt from any mistakes on Sunday and trained hard this week too to prepare as much as possible for the weekend.”

Ossett United currently ply their trade in the North East Regional Womens Football League which is a higher level than the Celts currently play at.

Although on paper Farsley may be the underdogs, Rigby believes her side is more than capable of causing the visitors a few problems.

“Ossett currently plays at a lot higher level than we do, so looking at that, then yes, we are the underdogs.

“However, we are unbeaten in the league so far and have a very healthy goal difference, so I don’t think it’s a guaranteed result for them.

“They have the potential to cause us some bother but with our players and season record so far, I’d hope they will be saying the same thing about us!”

Rigby also says that reaching the semi-final of the County Cup would be a “great achievement for the team, management and the club.”

“We’ve got our sights firmly set on winning the league, so getting as far in the cup competitions as possible is a nice added bonus!

“We know it will be a tougher game than what we are used to, but we are ready to rise to the challenge.”
