Farsley Celtic Women will be looking to make it 10-straight league wins to start the season when they take on Crofton Sports at the Citadel on Sunday.
Crofton Sports currently sit 8th in the league but have a significantly better goal difference than the other teams around them near the foot of the table.
Despite this, manager Jamie Sykes is taking confidence from the reverse fixture between the two sides in which the Celts were victorious.
“Our last game against Crofton finished 7-0 I believe,” Sykes said.
“Since then, we have only gotten stronger so I think we will have the quality to break them down.
“We just need to stick to our game and try not to force it as we did against Horsforth in our last game.”
This is a Farsley side who have put many games to bed before half-time this season, but only managed to lead Horsforth 1-0 at half-time in their last outing.
Sykes believes the pitch at the Citadel will be advantageous for his side as they look to find a breakthrough against Crofton.
He continued: “Our last game was on Horsforth’s artificial pitch so the ball in behind didn’t work as it kept running out of play. Now we are back at home, on grass, and on a pitch that we know, which will suit us more for that style of play.”
This is Farsley’s last home game before their quarter-final tie in the County Cup and Sykes has his sights set on building momentum going into that fixture.
“We have a few big games coming up, but we are more focused on the County Cup as that’s a great opportunity to test ourselves and reach the semi-finals.
“We have a new signing, Keegan Lambert, who will be in the squad Sunday, and we are all looking forward to seeing how she links up with Demi Pringle.”
Lambert will add needed reinforcements to the Celts’ frontline as Lucy Allman recently moved to Bradford City.
Sykes described Allman’s departure as a “massive loss to our team” but believes the forward position is “stronger ” after signing Lambert due to her previous experience at higher levels.
The Celts host Crofton Sports at the Citadel on Sunday at 2pm, with entry free for all.
