Farsley Celtic are delighted to announce the signing of former Scarborough Athletic forward Michael Coulson.
Michael, 35, also captained the Seadogs during his six-year spell with East Coast side, where he made 250 competitive appearances and scored 104 goals. He was Scarborough’s top scorer last term with 16 goals, before leaving the club by mutual consent last week.
His previous clubs also include Barnsley, Grimsby, York City and Scottish Premiership side St Johnstone.
“I’m delighted to be joining Farsley Celtic and this is definitely the right move for me,” Michael said. “I know quite a few of the boys at Farsley really well, and I know I’m joining a team that always gives their all.
“My aim is to come in and make a difference by helping the squad push up the league table. We have good players here and the team is doing well.
“I finished top scorer at Scarborough last season and I’ve always scored goals and done my best to help the team.
“I had a brilliant time at Scarborough but the time had come for me to move on. I’m looking forward to joining Farsley. It’s going to be an exciting new challenge for me, but I’m driven and determined to do well and score goals for the club. I can’t wait to get started.”
Director of football Pav Singh said Michael was a player who had scored plenty of goals throughout his career.
“Coulo will be a valuable addition to the club, bringing professionalism, experience and a positive impact on and off the field,” said Pav. “His desire to stay at this level – and the competition for his signature – highlight the strength of the project the club is building.
“His connection with former teammates adds an extra layer of camaraderie. His love for the game and confidence is something we admired. We look forward to seeing Coulo in action.”
Farsley Celtic chairman Paul Barthorpe added: “Michael is a player who has been on our radar – and the radar of many other clubs – for some time. He is not only a club legend at Scarborough but well admired and respected throughout football, and is renowned for a fabulous work ethic and leaving it all out on the pitch.
“Our lengthy injury list this season is well documented and put us in the market for a number of new players. So when this opportunity presented itself we did as we normally do and acted quickly and decisively to get this done, despite significant interest in his signature from elsewhere.
“It’s been a great team effort to sign Michael. Special mentions for the work put in by Pav, the first team management guys and vice chairman Josh Greaves, whose efforts got this one over the line.
“We are delighted that Michael chose to join our project, not only for the qualities we know he can bring us on the pitch, but also all he can bring off it too. There is no doubt in my mind that, as he has at every club, Michael will become a crowd favourite here too!”
Welcome to Farsley Celtic, Michael!
