Gaffer Clayton Donaldson admits the trip to Tadcaster Albion is a bit of a step into the unknown.
The Celts take a break from National League North action when they play their first match in this season’s West Riding County Cup – with a place in the quarter finals at stake.
“We don’t know that much about them so we have to concentrate on ourselves. We know that lower league teams are always up for playing clubs a couple of leagues higher and they will be out to get a result and progress.
“We need to make sure that our application is right and we treat it like we would a league game. We can’t take it for granted and we have to respect our opponents.”
Earlier this season Tadcaster gave National League North side Chester a real scare in the FA Cup, with Chester needing a second-half fightback to beat their Northern Counties East Football League hosts in a televised game.
With a busy Christmas schedule coming up – we entertain Gloucester on Saturday, before back-to-back games against Scunthorpe United – Clayton admitted he may rotate his squad for the Tadcaster game.
“We need to see who we have fit following Saturday’s game at Banbury. I only used one sub on Saturday, so I have to take that into account, too. Some of the players who didn’t start need games. But above all we need to approach it right and get a result.”
Celts fans will remember only too well a blustery night in February when ten-man Farsley Celtic crashed out of the West Riding County Cup in the quarter finals to minnows Albion Sports. The match finished 2-0 to Albion, with Isaac Assenso seeing red just before half time.
Kick-off time
The match kicks off at 7.45pm.
Team news
The Celts face a wait to see if versatile Jordan Carroll has recovered from the illness which forced him out of the Banbury game.
Darren Stephenson remains on the injured list and Lewis Turner is hoping to return to full training soon after a long-term injury.
