Leeds born midfielder Syers, started his career at Ossett Albion playing for a number of teams in West Yorkshire including Harrogate Town, Farsley and Guiseley AFC.

After shining as one of Farsley’s best players in the ill-fated 2009/10 season, when the old club was wound up, he earned his first professional contract with Bradford City in summer 2010, after impressing during a trial spell. Syers was awarded Bradford City’s Player’s Player of the Year award by his teammates in May 2011 to cap off an impressive first season in full time football. He left Valley Parade the following summer with 59 Bradford City appearances to his name, signing for Doncaster Rovers the following season.

He helped Rovers earn promotion to the Championship at the end of his first season with the South Yorkshire club. However after making just two Championship appearances with ‘Donny’, he signed on loan with Scunthorpe United in October 2013, going onto sign permanently for ‘The Iron’ on a two-and-a-half year deal that January.

He scored his first career hat-trick in February 2014, in a 5-1 win over Portsmouth but was injured in the opening game of the 2014/15 season, which would unfortunately rule him out of the entire campaign. He was ultimately released by ‘Scunny’ in January 2016, after making 46 appearances for the club, and went onto sign for Rochdale later that month.

After being released at the end of the season, he briefly re-linked with Guiseley before signing for Darlington for the majority of the 2016/17 season. He went onto make over 80 appearances for the North East club before returning to Farsley in November 2018.

Despite playing most of his career in central midfield, the 33-year-old has sown his versatility in also fitting into the backline at Farsley over the past 12 months.

Following Russ Wilcox’s appointment as First Team Manager, Syers undertook additional coaching responsibilities, whilst continuing as a pivotal member of the playing squad.

An accomplished cricket player, Syers played for various Leeds teams in the early stage of his career before having to give up due to his full-time football career. A Leeds University graduate, Syers has since retrained and is now a chartered accountant.
