After the excitement of last weekend’s FA Cup qualifier against Bradford City, it was back to more familiar surroundings this week with Farsley Celtic Women travelling to Sherburn White Rose in Premier Division action.

There were a few enforced changes to the team, particularly in midfield, due to injury and absence but there was no lack of talent on display for Farsley who were looking to get back to winning ways after a disappointing defeat against Skipton Town.

The game could not have gotten off to a better start for Farsley Celtic after Millie Washington took on the full back, went round her, and buried a tidily struck effort into the back of the net after 6 minutes. It was a route that created a lot of joy for Farsley and Millie’s impact since signing from Ilkley Town has been immense, long may it continue!

Sherburn, to their credit, stuck to their game plan throughout and managed to equalise after a direct ball over the top was chased and finished by their striker and it was probably no less than was deserved in a match that was highly competitive but ultimately short of quality throughout.

1-1 at half time and Izzy Roads kept the team the same to start the second and we soon found ourselves back in the lead after yet more great work from Millie Washington. Beating her marker on the left wing, her brilliant run was topped only by the sweet delivery into the six yard box and Georgia Bull was on hand to tuck it away and restore our lead.

The second half became more battling as it went on, both sides created chances but Leigh Bamford in the Farsley goal was solid throughout and projected calm across the Farsley defence as they ultimately held on to bring three points back to The Citadel before we hit the road again next week with a visit to Silsden.
