It was late heartbreak for Farsley as they fell to a late 2-1 defeat at Alfreton Town, with the Derbyshire side clinching victory via a stoppage time free-kick.
The Celts took the lead through Tom Allan mid-way through the second half, although the hosts grew stronger as the second half progressed and they deservedly equalized through Max Hunt.
However, deep into stoppage time, Jed Abbey fired in from a free-kick to ensure Alfreton’s unbeaten home record remained intact.
The hosts were unlucky not to take the lead on 22 minutes as Adam Lund had two efforts blocked on the edge of the area before David Moyo’s strike smashed the post.
But Farsley snatched the lead just four minutes later as Allan’s excellent strike flew past the outstretched arms of George Willis to put the visitors ahead in the contest.
The hosts began to dominate after the break and pulled level on 76 minutes as Hunt volleyed home to make it 1-1.
The Celt Army came agonisingly close to probably clinching the three points themselves when substitute DJ Campton-Sturridge’s rasping effort cannoned off the post.
Then three minutes into stoppage time, the ball fell to Robbie Fox who had a clean shot at goal but he could only fire straight at the goalkeeper.
Less than a minute later, the hosts countered which led to Rudy Misambo conceding a free kick on the edge of the area. The cruelest of finishes followed, with Abbey netting from the set piece to hand Alfreton victory.
Farsley will look to bounce back from the defeat on Tuesday evening with an away trip to Southport.
