Farsley Celtic Women hosted their first evening fixture of the season as they welcomed Hepworth United to The Citadel with no less than a win the target if promotion is to be obtained.
The 19:30 kick off didn’t harm Farsley’s preparation and the girls were firing from an early stage as Shirley Murphy gave them the lead after 12 minutes after rounding the goalkeeper and tucking away the finish.
Chance after chance was being created with notable moments for Amyleigh Pearce and Shirley Murphy but the lead could not be extended thanks to some fine work by the Hepworth goalkeeper.
Hepworth themselves were much improved from the reverse fixture just a few weeks ago and had plenty of the ball in midfield but perhaps lacked the cutting edge to really trouble Leigh Bamford in the Farsley goal, but the whole Farsley defence deserved credit, ably led by Lydia Ford as captain in the absence of Lauren Rigby.
One nil at half time and goals were needed in the second half to confirm the three points but it took until the 75th minute to get the second through a composed finish by Kaitlyn Walker who is going from strength to strength in midfield.
At this point heads might have dropped in the Hepworth team and Evie Smith took advantage with goal of the night with a brilliant looping finish into the top corner to make it 3-0 before a late consolation from Hepworth took away Bamford’s clean sheet.
Shirley Murphy however popped up again with the last kick of the match to make it 4-1 and wrapped up a great evening’s football leading us into the final game of the season as Farsley host Ackworth Girls on Tuesday 30th of April at 19:45 to close out the season with still a chance of promotion depending on other results going their way!
Make sure to come on down and get behind the girls as we hopefully will have something to celebrate at the end of this successful season for Farsley Celtic Women
