Farsley Celtic face a relegation six-pointer this weekend when the Celts face Darlington at Blackwell Meadows in the penultimate match of the season.

The two sides are locked in a tense relegation battle with teams all the way down from 15th still mathematically not safe from the drop.

Farsley currently occupy the final relegation spot in 21st with 50 points, knowing that a win on Saturday could see them leapfrog Darlington in 19th ahead of the final fixture next weekend when the Celts welcome Buxton to The Citadel.

Clayton Donaldson’s side come into the match off the back of a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Peterborough Sports in midweek, which saw plenty of effort yet no end reward as a superb performance from Slovenian shot-stopper kept Farsley in with a shout all game long.

Performances have improved for Farsley in recent matches, with the Celts ending their nine-game winless streak against the previously mentioned Peterborough last Saturday after a Michael Coulson header sealed a vital 1-0 win, however they couldn’t replicate that result at PIMS Park.

TEAM NEWS

Farsley have struggled with injuries in recent times, but managed to come through the midweek clash unscathed. Tom Allan serves the final match of his suspension.

DARLINGTON

It’s been a disappointing season for Darlington after their play-off chasing campaign last season. Results such as the 5-0 loss at Buxton as well as the heavy 8-0 defeat at Chorley means the Quakers have spent the majority of the 2023/24 season in the bottom four, however they have seen a great upturn in results under Steve Watson, with eight wins in their last eleven matches. The most recent of those being a 2-0 win over relegation rivals Southport at Blackwell Meadows last weekend.

LAST TIME OUT

Darlington were the victors in the most recent encounter when the Quakers ran out 2-1 winners at The Citadel thanks to goals from Cameron Salkeld and Will Hatfield. Farsley hit back through Conor Branson with ten minutes left to play, but Darlo’s one man advantage helped them secure the points. Farsley’s last visit to Blackwell Meadows ended in a 1-0 defeat back in August 2023.
