1-1

After back-to-back games against the top two in the division,  Farsley Celtic gained four points from six after a tight 2-1 victory against Ilkley Town before a disappointing 1-1 draw at home to Leeds Hyde Park.

Played in blustery winds, Ilkley controlled the first half of our game and took an early lead before Farsley fought back and turned the game around in the second half after two great goals from Shirley Murphy.

Against Hyde Park it was a different story as on a sunny day in front of a big crowd at The Citadel. Farsley controlled possession from the first kick off and really should have scored in the first few minutes with chances for Georgia Bull and Shirley Murphy.

But for all that control, the Celts did not create enough clear cut chances in the first half and it was all square at the break.

With the coaches’ words ringing in their ears The Celts quickly looked to reassert control in the second half but Hyde Park grew into the game, with a few quick breaks causing problems that Leigh Bamford in goal had to be aware of.

Farsley’s breakthrough came after a corner was whipped in by Lauren Rigby, Ebony Hartnett flicked it on, and Georgia Bull powered in the header for a lead that was no less than the home side deserved.

After this it tightened up as Hyde Park threw themselves forward in search of an equaliser which finally came with a few minutes to go after a goal mouth scramble, much to the celebrations of their large travelling support.

It finished 1-1 at full time and while promotion is still possible, Farsley will be relying on other teams to lend them a hand.
