A rotated Farsley Celtic Women’s team travelled to Selby College to take on a physical Brayton Belles side on a sunny late February afternoon.
With a few changes to the team that drew with Leeds Hyde Park last time out, it was a good opportunity for a number of players to stake a claim for a regular starting position – and the coaching staff very much wanted a positive reaction after conceding so late against Hyde Park.
Unfortunately it was not the start the visitors had hoped for as an early Brayton Belles corner was bundled in at the near post for a shock early lead. Credit to the Farsley players though, who were not rattled by this and continued playing their game as planned.
With 20 minutes played it was all square as a Farsley corner was turned into their own net by a Brayton Belles defender. It was no less than The Celts deserved after some positive build up play, and the gap in quality was clear on the field.
24 minutes in Georgia Bull gave Farsley the lead after a brilliant through ball from Ebony Hartnett, which gave Bull time to pick her spot for a calm finish.
It was all square at the break and with a few changes made, it did not take long for the Celts to double the lead as Georgia Bull increased her tally for the day with a close-range finish.
The second half was a physical contest with a stop-start nature but there were composed performances from the Farsley back four throughout to prevent Brayton Belles from any clear-cut opportunities to try and claw their way back into the game.
It finished 3-1 at full time and next up for Farsley Celtic Women is the visit of Hall Green United on Sunday, 3 March. All welcome at The Citadel for the 2pm kick off as the girls continue to fight for promotion!
