Farsley Celtic face Northern Premier League side Guiseley AFC on Saturday in the final match of pre-season before the start of the 2023/24 National League North season.

It’s the sixth and final match of Farsley’s pre-season preparations and the last chance for the players to make their mark before the opening day away at Rushall Olympic on Saturday 5 August.

The Celts face familiar opposition in Guiseley AFC who Farsley most recently faced back in April 2022 at The Citadel where a Frank Mulhern stunner inside the first minute earned Farsley all three points in the derby.

In the most recent outing, Farsley were defeated 1-2 at The Citadel by National League side York City on Tuesday 25 July with The Minstermen coming out on top thanks to a dubious penalty decision in the second half. Joao Silva scored the only goal for the home side with a well-hit left-footed shot from outside the box to increase his tally to two in pre-season.

It was Farsley’s most encouraging performance yet under the new regime, with Clayton Donaldson coming close to getting on the scoresheet multiple times, as well as Ben Atkinson who had a goal disallowed for offside. The Celts will now be looking to cap off pre-season with a win.

Our hosts on Saturday most recently defeated National League North side Scarborough Athletic 1-0 at Nethermoor Park, and they will be looking to do the same again on Saturday when Farsley visit.

TEAM NEWS

Lewis Turner and Isaac Assenso could return to the squad after missing the York fixture.

The Celts did not sustain any other injuries on Tuesday night and will be looking to utilise a fully fit squad.
