Farsley Celtic’s pre-season campaign concludes this weekend, with Scunthorpe United the visitors ahead of the Vanarama National League North season kicking off next weekend.

The Iron are preparing for their first season in the National League, following their relegation from League Two last season, which ended a 72-year stay in the EFL.

The Celts now possess a number of players who had previously plied their trade at Scunthorpe, in addition to Manager Russ Wilcox who had a long association with the Lincolnshire club.

Andy Butler, Lewis Butroid, George Hornshaw, Dave Syers and Jimmy Spencer are all Celts who will be familiar to the visiting Iron supporters.

It has been a busy pre-season so far for Keith Hill’s side, with this their eighth game in preparation for the 2022/23 season.

The Iron were in West Yorkshire on Tuesday evening for their most recent outing, defeating National League North opposition in Bradford (Park Avenue) 1-0.

For the Celts, their last action saw an impressive victory recorded against National League opposition, as a late strike from Mwiya Malumo secured a 2-1 win against FC Halifax Town.

Following this weekend, the next action for Russ Wilcox’s side will be competitive action, with a trip to Leamington on Saturday 6th August to open the new season.
