Dearnley impressed as a trialist on Saturday in our victory over FC Halifax Town, and Russ Wilcox moved quickly to secure his signature ahead of the new season.

The 6’5” shot-stopper spent last season with Huddersfield Town, having previously featured in non-league football with FC Halifax Town, Scarborough Athletic, Penistone Church and Ossett United.

After signing for the Celts, Dearnley said: “Speaking to Russ, he seems very positive about the season and I’m excited to get going, get some National League North games under my belt, and I’m excited to kick on, as a club and individually.

“I feel like I’m quite calm, I don’t shout and bawl at my defence as some ‘keepers do, I like to keep it nice and calm.

“I feel like I’m quite a good shot-stopper, like to command my area, and I’m quite good with my feet, with distribution, so I like to think I’m not too bad all-round really!”

Russ Wilcox added: “We’ve known about Max for a while through Tom Morgan, so credit to Tom regarding that.

“We eventually got him in Saturday on a trial and he blew us away, to be honest, so it was imperative we got him signed.

“I think it’s really good to have your own goalkeeper personally, we had loan goalkeepers which were great last season, Dave Robson was outstanding for us, but you always worry as a manager that they’ll be recalled.

“Having our own goalkeeper now, who’s under contract for the season, is fantastic for the football club.”
