Following last season’s promotion, there were some unknowns out there today about our opposition, but Head Coach Izzy Roads selected a strong side that was aiming to get us off to the best possible start.

Unfortunately that plan was quickly out the window as an early freekick was looped over the head of Leigh Bamford in goal to give Wyke a shock lead but it only served to focus the Farsley minds and the team soon settled into their familiar patterns and build up play.

On 31 minutes we finally got a golden opportunity when new signing Millie Washington rounded the goalkeeper in a one-on-one and tucked it away calmly to equalise and it was no less than Farsley deserved at that point. This really settled the nerves and the confidence amongst the team was on display.

All square at half time, it was a similar story to the first half as Wyke regained their lead with a close range effort from a corner that bounced home off the underside of the crossbar.

It did not take long to pull it back as Evie Smith tucked away a fizzed cross from Millie Washington to get her first of the day, and minutes later Georgia Bull hit a wonderful effort from out wide to continue her fine run of scoring form and to give us the lead for the first time in the game.

Evie Smith found herself on the score sheet again on 60 minutes after stealing the ball on the edge of the penalty area and poking it home for 4-2.

Making her league debut for Farsley, Chloe Rimmer rifled in the 5th goal after a free kick was crossed in and fell right at her feet in the penalty area and moments later we wrapped up the scoring after Shirley Murphy created a brilliant opportunity for Washington who made it 6 and capped off a brilliant all round performance on her first appearance in Green and White.

There were a few minutes left for Leigh Bamford to pull off some strong saves but the victory was sealed and it was a big three points earned to start the season.

Next up for Farsley Celtic Women is a trip over to Skipton to take on Skipton Ladies in league action.
