Farsley Celtic recorded a 1-0 victory over Needham Market on Saturday as Danny Greenfield’s late goal secured the three points.

Greenfield struck with less than ten minutes of normal time remaining from outside the area to secure a big win on the road for the Celts.

The first half was a close affair with newly promoted Needham Market proving to be a tough test for Pav Singh’s side, and they almost took the lead early on when a curling effort from outside the area was well saved by the on-loan Darryl Ombang.

Farsley responded with an opportunity of their own when midfielder Ryan Watson drove through the heart of the pitch before unleashing an effort narrowly wide of the post.

Greenfield would be the first to test Cullum in the Needham Market goal when his attempt at a free-kick forced the goalkeeper to dive across to his right to keep it out.

On the half-hour mark came the highlight of the half. A superbly flowing move from Farsley straight off the training ground led to Bailey Sloane smashing a left-footed effort onto the crossbar.

The second half started in the same manner as the first with both sides being limited to half chances.

That was until 25 minutes in when a corner caused chaos in the Farsley box, eventually leading to captain Conor Branson producing a superb block on the line to deny the hosts a certain opening goal.

It seemed as if the contest was heading for a stalemate until Greenfield, fresh off the back of scoring his first goal in green and white on Tuesday at Southport, picked up the ball from Ben Atkinson before lashing a shot into the bottom left corner, leaving Cullum no chance and sparking scenes in the away end.

Despite a late onslaught from Needham, Farsley dug in well to secure the victory; their fourth of the season and their first under Pav Singh’s management.

The Celts now have a break from league action as attention turns towards the FA Cup where Farsley travel to Hallam FC in the Second Round Qualifying stage of the competition.
