Farsley Celtic recorded a massive victory over Peterborough Sports after Michael Coulson sealed a 1-0 win to end their nine-match winless run.

Michael Coulson netted the only goal in the second half in a frantic affair which ended with Sports Captain Dan Lawlor striking a late penalty against the post as Farsley held on for a crucial win.

Peterborough Sports started the better of the two times and could have easily gone ahead twice early on when Zan-Luk Leban was on hand to deny Michael Gash from a low drive, whilst Conor Branson’s crucial intervention kept the scores level.

While the visitors were on top, Farsley had chances of their own and came closest to claiming the lead when Darren Stephenson’s strike from a tight angle narrowly whisked past the post of Peter Crook.

The highlight of the first half came on the stroke of half time however when Leban produced a world class save to keep out a header from Brandon Njoku which looked destined for the back of the net.

The second half saw much less in the way of chances for both sides as the match tightened up both sides looked to try and nick a goal.

The goal that Farsley craved then arrived with just over 20 minutes left to play as Michael Coulson rose highest from a corner to power one home into the bottom right corner.

It then looked as though the three points had been cruelly snatched away from Farsley as the away side were awarded a penalty with just a single minute of normal time left to play. Up stepped captain Dan Lawlor who smashed his penalty off the post to keep the Celts in front.

Sports then missed enough another massive chance just moments later when Rory McAuley sent the ball over from extremely close range.

Clayton Donaldson’s side then saw out the final few moments to earn an important three points which keeps Farsley’s survival hopes well and truly alive going into the final three matches of the 2023/24 season.

Farsley will be looking to capitalise on today’s victory as they make the trip to face none other than Peterborough Sports again on Tuesday evening at Lincoln Road where a win could see the Celts move as high as 15th.
