Farsley Celtic Women will compete in their first ever West Riding County Women’s League Cup Final on Sunday when they take on Yorkshire Amateur at the County Ground – Fleet Lane.

The Celts have ‘ripped up the script’ this season in making the Final against the higher placed Ammers, having beaten teams from above them in the league structure to make the final, and they will be looking to put on a performance against an Yorkshire Amateur side who sit three leagues above them.

In the Semi Finals of the competition Farsley were victorious against Premier Division Champions Lower Hopton – who they defeated on penalties. A victory against a team three divisions higher no less.

Captain Lauren Rigby commented: “The semi final against Hopton seems like a long time ago, but it was such a great win. We managed to equalize against them in the final few minutes and then took the game to penalties, which we duly won. It was a great day!

“I am expecting it (Sunday’s final) to be another challenge, and we are definitely the underdogs going into the game. We are a Third Division team playing against a team that have just finished second in the Premier Division – so it is theirs to lose!

“It has been hard having such a gap between our last League game and the final, but I am hoping that we can do ourselves proud, no matter what the outcome.

“It would be great to have the support of the Farsley fans to round off a really successful season for the Women’s section.

“League winners and League Cup finalists. Two things to celebrate regardless of the score on Sunday. Lets hope we can do the double.”

The final takes place this Sunday (May 28th) at the West Riding County FA ground. Fleet Lane, Woodlesford (LS26 8NX)
