It’s a top-of-the-table clash this Sunday when league leaders Farsley Celtic travel to play Burley Trojans, the only team that has remained within touching distance of the Celts throughout their perfect league campaign so far.
Only two points separate the two sides, but Farsley have a game in hand and this Sunday’s fixture presents both teams with a chance to take three points from their direct rivals for the title.
Farsley manager Jamie Sykes believes Burley Trojans are the team in need of a result more this Sunday, and that the hosts are the ones under more pressure.
“I think it’s a massive and must-win game for Burley as they have already dropped points this season,” said Sykes.
“The pressure is not on us so we can just go out and play our normal game. We are working on playing out from the back and that’s our focus.
“If we win against Burley, then the pressure is massive for them as they are then in a position where Athletico could catch them.”
Sykes expects a quick start from the hosts in what could prove to be a pivotal game come the end of the season.
“I expect them to come at us and be aggressive. They need to score goals so that presents chances for us to catch them on the counterattack.”
Sykes is also pleased with how new signing Keegan Lambert has been able to hit the ground running and ease the goalscoring burden on Demi Pringle.
“Keegan was a massive signing for us as we constantly relied on Demi Pringle to score all of our goals.
“As we saw in her debut, she scored four and the fact that she has also played with a number of our other major signings before has helped them all link up well.”
