Farsley Celtic remain winless at home this season as they slipped to a 2-0 defeat to a resurgent Boston United.

The Celts created more than enough chances to take something from the game, but it was the visitors who were clinical when it mattered, winning their fourth straight game.

Just like on Saturday, Russ Wilcox’s side started on the front foot, with Frank Mulhern and Jimmy Spencer both having half-chances that they were unable to convert.

But Boston would take the lead against the run of play 10 minutes in, Jordan Crawford’s cross finding its way through to Zak Mills who slotted home at the back post.

Midway through the first half, it would be two. Scott Pollock slid a ball through the middle of the Farsley defence for Jake Wright to run onto, getting there just ahead of Max Dearnley as he poked home.

However, Farsley were almost back in the game immediately. Frank Mulhern played in Jimmy Spencer in the box, the forward chopping back onto his right foot to beat his man only for his low strike to be saved by Sam Long.

The hosts would continue to push for a route back into the game in the first half to no avail, Spencer and Luke Parkin both having good opportunities, before the Pilgrims somehow scrambled the ball off the line as Farsley couldn’t quite force it home.

The story in the second half was much the same, with Long in the Boston goal having to be at his best to maintain his clean sheet.

First, he produced an excellent stop to deny Frank Mulhern who lashed a fierce half-volley towards the top corner from 20-yards out.

From the resulting corner, he then produced an excellent low stop with his feet at the near post to deny Isaac Assenso’s first-time volley.

Assenso, on as a substitute for the injured Adam Clayton, impressed at the back, and certainly didn’t look like a man who’d missed two years of football through injury.

The Lincolnshire side would have opportunities on the break to put the game to bed, Crawford dragging wide when well-placed, whilst Dearnley produced an outstanding double-save to deny Brad Abbott and Jaanai Gordon.

Ultimately, the two early goals would be enough for Boston to take all three points, with the Celts left wondering what might have been once again.
