Farsley’s unbeaten run was extended to 13 games on Saturday, with a 0-0 draw at fellow play-off contenders Burscough.
Although the Celts came into the game off the back of 12 consecutive wins, the point keeps us within touching distance of the top five.
Farsley started the brightest, with the passing and fluid style of play which has brought so much success in recent months causing the Burscough back-line plenty of problems. Strong shouts for a penalty were turned away by Natalia Aspinal, despite Lewis Nightingale’s cross appearing to be handled by Nick Ryan.
But a quick long-ball played up the other end on 22 minutes almost saw the hosts pinch the opener, but Liam Caddick’s effort flew just wide of the upright. Then a minute later, Nightingale squared the ball in from the by-line to Aiden Savory, but his close-range effort was cleared off the line.
Tom Taylor had to make a top-class save on the half-hour mark, when his outstretched leg denied Michael Monaghan the elusive opener.
Farsley almost struck right before the break when the lively Nightingale provided another dangerous low-ball into the box, which was just inches away from Jordan Deacey who was almost certainly guaranteed a goal had he got a touch.
Chances were at a premium for either side in a drab second half although Celtic almost struck on the hour mark. A free-kick was drifted into the box and Adam Clayton then headed back across goal but the ball hit Savory who had no time to react and the ball bounce off his shin and just the wrong side of the post.
Savory then had the chance of the match when he latched onto a long ball. He may have been better advised to have taken the shot first time as taking a touch allowed hosts goalkeeper Calvin Hare to close the angle and make an essential block.
