Despite having much more of the play and chances in the first 70 minutes of the game, Farsley were eventually held to a one all draw away at Kendal on Tuesday evening. A game in which Farsley will be disappointed not to have come out from with the full three points.
Farsley started bright on a soggy pitch in Cumbria, and it was Lewis Nightingale who played the first ball into the box, but saw his cross well cleared off the toe of Aiden Savory after 15 minutes. Jordan Deacey then went on a good run down the left and crossed for Nightingale to open the scoring at the far post to give Farsley the lead midway through the first half.
Just after the half hour Chris Howarth was played in by Nightingale, and his cross to Deacey was well cleared by the Kendal defence. Some more attacking football by the Celts saw the ball drop to Savory, who hit his effort over the bar, as Farsley struggled to convert their dominance into goals.
As the game approached half time, a long ball from Kendal saw the home side through on goal, and the attacker was pulled down wide on the edge of the box by Tom Taylor. The referee had a difficult call to make and gave Taylor a yellow card, and the goalkeeper then went on to make a good stop as the ball bounced around in the area following the resulting free kick.
Farsley made the early running in the second half and were unfortunate not to extend their lead when Nightingale had a shot that went just wide of the right hand post. Lewis Sugden then ran at the defence and played a great ball in to Savory who couldn't connect to double the advantage.
With Kendal defending well and Farsley being frustrated, the home side broke and it was Leon Gierke who equalised for the home side after finding himself one on one with Taylor.
The Celts couldn't find their early rhythm in the final twenty minutes, and it was perhaps Kendal who looked the more likely to snatch a winner, as the game played out to a draw.
